A training for tourist guide in Batam island

This project aims to improve tour guides communication skills in English. The lesson are conducted online via zoom.

The syllabus for this training is based on theoretical knowledge. It also relies on practical experience I have accumulated since starting my career as a tour guide. I drew from my teaching education to create a module for basic level. Additionally, I used my practical experience as a teacher between 2012 – 2015.

The first lesson is shared below. The lesson was conducted for 90 minutes. Lesson started with introduction, what the aim for the lesson and expected result at the end of the lesson.

Participants are tourist guides in Batam island, Indonesia. Lessons are only for tour guide with license. Thus those who already have English as their qualification are not allowed to join this training.

The lessons will be held for 3 months. Every week for 90 minutes. Maximum participants can join are 100 people.

What are the target to achieve?

• Participants understand and can spell their name, and name of popular destinations in Batam island
• Participants understand and can use English to tell the amount of Indonesian currency
